The 4451AE Briquet Press is a 40 ton press that provides the pressure necessary to briquette powdered samples into solids for laboratory analysis. An industry standard, the 4451AE is a trusted model that has been around since the 1940's. Although the electronics and pneumatic valves have been updated since the product was first introduced, the basic design of the press has remained the same. Recognizable by the analog dial gauge on the front, the 4451AE has been a workhorse for analytical labs that has stood the test of time. If you are routinely briquetting non-metallics, powdered metals, drillings, millings, refractory or food products, the 4451AE is a perfect choice - one sample a week or one thousand samples a week. Standard mold diameters are 1-1/4", 1-3/8" and 40 mm and are available in steel and tungsten carbide.

The 4452 Automatic Briquet Press (see below) is a programmable version of the popular 4451AE Press, which can be easily set up to automate press functions.

The massive "swinging" bridge that is inherent in the 4451AE design allows the mold body and plunger to remain in the press. Only the mold cap is removed between samples and the press automatically ejects the sample from the mold. This greatly speeds sample throughput and minimizes sample cracking. Many other models on the market require that the mold be removed after each sample is pressed and the sample must be then ejected by hand.

The press head itself is constructed of 1-3/4" diameter tie rods and massive one piece bridge. This is driven by a hydraulic system utilizing heavy duty pump and 3 hp motor. It is no surprise that many models purchased in the 1960's and 1970's are still in full use today. Designed and manufactured in USA.

The 4452 Automatic Briquet Press is an adapted version of the popular 4451AE Press that includes a color touch screen interface and controls. The 4452 allows the user to program the amount of time it takes to ramp up to the set pressure (ramp time), how long the pressure is held (dwell time) and how long it takes the release pressure from the sample (unload time). Simple or stepped programs can be created and stored for later use.

A simple toggle switch on the front of the 4452 allows the user to switch between automatic mode or manual mode.

The 4452 has a USB interface that allows it to be connected to a compuer for remote factory diagnosis. Updates or system checks can be easily done without the need for an on-site visit.
